I heard a man met a girl at a matchmaking party three months ago. He has decided to marry her only in three months.
I would take at least one year. Everyone wears his/her mask in order to be loved and tries to play a nice and kind person at first. Everyone can pretend to be an ideal future husband/wife for three months. But I am not saying that it is a bad behavior to do so. It is just that you should find out the truth with your own eyes. I think that it would take more than three months to find out your future spouse's true character. Don't you think so? |

Last weekend I visited the Mitsubishi Motorcar showroom in Shinagawa, Tokyo.
As my current car is getting older, now I am considering buying a new car. The important points in my selecting a car are having smooth and good acceleration and not being so large, especially its length. In addition, the other essential factor is 4WD for safety. Because parking space of supermarkets in Japan is so small, if the size of a car is long, it is hard to park it, while the car's width is not a problem. |

![]() I went to see a South Korean preview movie describing four couples eight people's partings "Sad movie". Happy lovers, unhappy lovers, one-way love each other, parent and child. All the last ends were tragedies. However, everyone held back the tears and smiled. A fireman at 30 chooses rings in order to get marred to his pretty girlfriend. A part-time worker and his girlfriend with broad mind are getting tired more and more. A spoilt 8-year-old is picking a quarrel with his busy mam. A deaf girl with scar on her cheek dreams her first love. They cannot notice all the facts that partings are around the corner. I shook my head after the movie finished. It was very sad. I strongly suggest that you should not watch this movie, when you are unhappy. |

![]() Have you ever tried a legendary hot cake at Manso restaurant? The restaurant is located in Kanda, Tokyo. There are a lot of old-established restaurants left in Kanda area between Akihabara and Tokyo station. I believe that they did not burn at the air raid on Tokyo in 1945. The hot cake has a legendary mysterious secret taste. I suspect that the special taste is hidden in the syrup. The syrup does not taste maple, but brown sugar. I felt Taisho-retro nostalgia in the taste. |

For almost all Japanese people, the word "World Cup" would be closely associated with Soccer. However, the world American football tournament match, which is also called World Cup, has been held since the first one was held around 10 years ago.
As a matter of fact, the host country next year is Japan. In Europe, unexpectedly American football is one of the popular sports, especially in some German states, it is the next most popular sports to soccer. Many European countries have their own national teams and the last European champion was Finland team. Surprisingly, to tell the truth, Japan is the champion of the first and the second World Cup. (US and Canada did not participate in the past games because they have pro leagues.) It seems that the Japanese national Rugby team will never win the championship forever because the difference in physical strength between Japanese and Western people is crucial. However, the Japanese American football players make up for their physical weakness by making the most of their speed, technique and tactics. |

Recently, I have received a C.V. (curriculum vitae) for a business visitor in advance. His hobbies and preferences are also mentioned in it. Interestingly, it is written in the question-and-answer format.
One of them is "If you were banned to a remote island, which items would you take with you?" Umm... I would take... One is my personal computer. I could make a connection to the Net and check daily world news. I could exchange email and make a TV phone call with my PC. The second one is umm... I would take my girlfriend. Of course I could enjoy being alone, but would feel lonesome. The last one is... Dokodemo-Door like a transporter in Star Trek. The answer that the visitor wrote in his C.V. is "Ship". I see! |

This morning I found an interesting article in the sports section of today’s Nihon Keizai newspaper. Some sports columnist was opposed to the play-off system for the Japanese professional baseball because he cannot agree that the 2nd team or the 3rd team in the pennant race wins a trail of victories in the play-off games and becomes No.1 of Japan.
I do not think so. It seems that the Central League will also introduce a play-off system next year. I completely agree about the idea. In the United States, play-off systems are introduced in many pro sports such as American football and baseball. Even in Japan Rugby football association introduces the system in the non-pro league and the college championship games. So to speak, the 2nd or the 3rd place team are the wild card teams, and given a chance to win the consolation match. I think it is very exciting and thrilling. |

A microsoft's new browser, Internet explore 7 (IE7), was released last week. I immediately downloaded and installed the IE7 on my Windows. However, the new browser froze every 5 minutes. It seems to still have some bugs. It will take a few months for Microsoft to get the bugs out of the new browser, I believe.
The advantages of IE7 seems limited to the improvement of security and the more user-friendly printing. If you use a virus security software such as Virus Buster and you do not have any problem with printing, I do not think you need to upgrade your browser. Anyway I do not think now it is the right time to upgrade my browser, and then I am going to wait and see until the IE7 is applied the necessary patch to. |

Now we carry mobile phones with us, but at ancient times, sometimes we could not meet each other and used to think that the appointment was broken and we were stood up, "Suppoka-sareta". When I remember the past, I think it was very inefficient and we consumed much of our precious time.
Incidentally, when I was a student, I worked part time at Daimaru department store in San-nomiya, Kobe. I was ordered by my boss to wait at the entrance of Center. My boss told me to wait at the entrance of the delivery Center of the Daimaru building. But I was waiting for him at the entrance of the San-nomiya Center street, San-nomiya-Center-Gai. I was waiting for him around as much as one hour alone. (I heard that no one had misunderstood it and waited at the center street before I did.) |

Guessing wrong sometimes happens and sometimes leads to a problem. The followings are the examples.
I made an appointment with a friend of mine the other day. She told me that she would wait for me in front of "B1" entrance of Mitsukoshi department store. So I was waiting at the subway's B1 entrance to the Mitsukoshi department store. But she was waiting at the entrance of Mitsukoshi department store on the first basement. If there were only "A" signs, say, A1, A2, A3, I would not have misunderstood B1. But Ginza station is so big that many subway lines cross and there are "B" entrances and even "C" entrances. |

Metabolic Syndrome is the word in fashion this year.
"Obesity", "high blood pressure", "diabetes", "hyperlipemia" are the four major diseases of so called lifestyle-related illnesses. Fat accumulated in the internal organs are considered to cause these diseases. The number of thuman's cell is about 60 trillion. The rebirth cycles differ by the organs. For example, it takes five days for stomach and intestines, 22 days for the heart, 28 days for the skin, 60 days for muscles and liver, 90 days for the bone. That is, if metabolism is performed correctly, the body will be fully reborn in about three months. Now I try to walk more than 10,000 steps a day in order to remain my youth. But in reality around 6,000 steps.... |

Recently, I feel that I have been working only for compliance matters at my office. Last year, the protection of individual information was the biggest issue. This year, compliance with the law is the first priority in my company. Compliance with laws, ordinances, rules and regulations is of course necessary and important. However, over reactions sometimes become an excessive burden for employees.

The State of Hawaii, U.S., will enforce the new law which completely prohibits smoking at a public space on November 16. It aims to protect a nonsmoker's health from the damage of passive smoking.
Smoking area will be set within six meters from the public places and their entrances specified by the state or counties. Smoking in a restaurant, a bar, a sport institution, etc. becomes illegal and individual offender will be imposed a fine, a maximum of 50 dollars (about 6000 yen). The same law has been already enforced in 13 states in the US, such as California and New York. In my town, smoking is prohibited on the road within a few hundred meters from the station. Smoking not only harms a nonsmoker's health but also sometimes injures children. Smoking while walking is very dangerous. If fire of cigarette touched an eye of a small child, it leads to blindness. However, it is a very deplorable situation that some imprudent smokers carelessly break the law. |

The supply of gas and electricity stopped.
Some Japanese people staying in Hawaii said that such shock was just the 4th stage in the Japanese seismic scale. The four-stage earthquakes happen once or twice a year in Tokyo. So Japanese people are not so nervous. On this island, 6 hours or more has passed since the earthquake, but electricity has still not restored and many people are standing in a long line in front of supermarkets or fast food restaurants for the meal. According to Hawaii local paper Honolulu Advertiser, "Hopefully, most of the tourists to Hawaii are from California and Japan, who are accustomed to earthquakes." |

A strong earthquake occurred in Big Island (Hawaii Island) early in the morning. It is said that some buildings collapsed, but no one died.
The island is an active volcano, so I am not so surprised whenever earthquakes may happen around the Hawaii Islands. I hope that the earthquake did not cause Tsunami. Speaking of Tsunami, the word is originally Japanese. But why is it English, too? To tell the truth, I know the reason. After World War II, a big tidal wave struck the north coasts of Hawaii. The earthquake in Alaska caused it. Some newspapers for Japanese American people used the word Tsunami. Tsunami has become an English word since then. By the way, the statue of Buddha in Kamakura has no house. The big tsunami wiped away his/her house. Sadly, he/she has lived outsides since then. |

The TV drama series in the autumn quarter have just started.
I always check and watch the first episode of each interesting TV drama and then I decide which dramas I continue to watch every week. This time, the number of the programs which I checked is around 10. But I am going to choose only a few dramas from them. Damens Walker is one of my favorites. Damens seems to be a coined word. It is made-up from Dame and Men. Dame means Not suitable marriage partner, I think in this drama. |

There is no limitation in man's desire. Is that true, or not?
For example, I believe that those who live in a 50-square meter apartment want to live in a 65-square meter one. Once they settle in the 65-square meter one, the feeling of desire to have 100 square meters one will grow. Of course people who are not so interested in a large house would not have such a desire. Today I read an article about an American psychologist, Mazuro's theory. There is a motive in all man's actions. The theory of Mazuro is said to have clarified hierarchical structure of various motives. 1. Physiology desire (sleepy, hungry) 2. Safe desire (do not like fear) 3. Social desire (want to have friends) 4. Respected desire (want to be respected and loved) 5. Self-actualization desire (want to become a good man) You act in the above order to fulfill your desirers. Do you think so? |

![]() I am now considering buying a Plasma TV. Someone likes a liquid-crystal TV, but I prefer a plasma TV because of many better things. For example, the view of the Plasama TV is three‐dimensional, on the other hand that of the LC TV is flat. Furthermore the moving image response is much better. LC TV tends to blur the image or leave a trailing effect. LC TV has nothing better than Plasma TV except for the low price. However, the price of Plasma TV has sharply fallen recently. The price of the 42 inch sized TV is now 240,000 yen. It costs 5,000 yen per one inch. One year ago, 10,000 yen per one inch. So it might be time to buy one. |

In the Tokyo foreign exchange market, the yen has weakened.
It is reported that the weakness of the yen against the dollar was caused by the nuclear test in North Korea. The value of the yen against the US dollar is 119 yen. Four years ago, I invested a huge amount of yen in the foreign currence market. I bought a lot of dollars. At that time, the exchange rate for the dollar was 126 yen. My assets have been frozen since then. So I am happy to hear the economic news. |

![]() Finally I could rent a DVD, "Hotel Rwanda", which had been always rented out. It was a hotel manager's story during the civil war. Actually, over ten years ago, when the civil war broke out, I got interest in the history of the country. It was conflicts stemming from ethnic. Historically two ethnic groups, the Tutsi and the Hutu, were living in the area. During the war, only a hundred days, it is said that one million people were killed. Just one question is: the hotel manager was the Hutu and his wife was the Tutsi. It means each tribe personally did not hate each other. Why did they have to kill one million people each other? |

![]() Last weekend, I went for a walk on Omotesando street in Harajuku. I found there was a quiet residential area just one block away from the crowded busy main street. I noticed many old houses and cheap looking apartments there. I walked toward Meiji Shrine, but as the closing time was getting close, I turned back halfway. I found the special gate and platform in Harajuku station exclusively used for the emperor and his family. |

Today I read an article about the secrets of speaking skill up.
That is, you should give up 20% of what you want to say. For example, when you want to mention a chrysanthemum, Kiku, you can substitute "a yellow flower" for it. Another example, if you cannot say, "uguisu-color" in English, you can say "green" for it. If you cannot say "purple", you can even say "blue" for it. According to the article, how well you speak English depends on how many words you know and how correctly you can use grammar. It sounds like it makes sense. |

![]() I went to a cinecom to see a movie "World Trade Center" last evening. It released just yesterday. I thought each person would have each impression for this movie. I temporarily stayed at the WTC building as a trainee. The view from on the over 90th floor was so great. I was able to overlook New Jersey, Statue of Liberty and Staten Island. It seems to me that this film has two themes. One is the men's story, and the other is the wives' story. I almost shouted at the theater, "You did it!", "Good Job!". |

If you pay 200 yen more, you will have a special tea set. It goes with three Dango, dumpling cakes made of wheat flour, and you can choose Matcha, a green powdered tea, or coffee. ![]() Last month, I visited Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Musium, a 7minutes walk from Megro Station. It used to be the residence of Prince Asaka in Meiji Era. I had peace of mind to see the European style of garden where green moss harmonized with lawn, and black and white chairs were set randomly. The ex-Asaka residence is built in the style of Art Deco. Its modern architecture culture made me feel as if I time-slipped into Meiji Period. |

![]() Last Friday, I went to see a preview movie, “Tristan und Isolde” at Kyoiku-Kaikan in Jinbo-cho, Tokyo. It was not a popular and expected film, so there were many vacant seats. However, "Tristan und Isolde" is one of the most popular stories in Western countries. It is said that the story was the model for Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet". Actually, I do not like Shakespeare's and the medieval history so much, and then I had hesitated to see the movie at first. But it was very interesting. I thought I was lucky to watch such a good movie. The story was not the same as the original one, but I prefer the movie story. I think the reason why it is similar to "Romeo and Juliet" is a hopeless love and a portion. However, the unrealistic love portion was not used in the film. The film is set in Cornwall, England. It is famous for its breathtaking scenery and a summer villa. |

Today I decided to write an English diary in order to improve my English through constant practice. For Japanese people including me, there are few opportunities of using English here in Japan while we can easily read and hear English everyday. So I hope my morale will not shrink within three days. |
