A strong earthquake occurred in Big Island (Hawaii Island) early in the morning. It is said that some buildings collapsed, but no one died.
The island is an active volcano, so I am not so surprised whenever earthquakes may happen around the Hawaii Islands. I hope that the earthquake did not cause Tsunami. Speaking of Tsunami, the word is originally Japanese. But why is it English, too? To tell the truth, I know the reason. After World War II, a big tidal wave struck the north coasts of Hawaii. The earthquake in Alaska caused it. Some newspapers for Japanese American people used the word Tsunami. Tsunami has become an English word since then. By the way, the statue of Buddha in Kamakura has no house. The big tsunami wiped away his/her house. Sadly, he/she has lived outsides since then. ¡¡ |
