This morning I found an interesting article in the sports section of today¡Çs Nihon Keizai newspaper. Some sports columnist was opposed to the play-off system for the Japanese professional baseball because he cannot agree that the 2nd team or the 3rd team in the pennant race wins a trail of victories in the play-off games and becomes No.1 of Japan.
I do not think so. It seems that the Central League will also introduce a play-off system next year. I completely agree about the idea. In the United States, play-off systems are introduced in many pro sports such as American football and baseball. Even in Japan Rugby football association introduces the system in the non-pro league and the college championship games. So to speak, the 2nd or the 3rd place team are the wild card teams, and given a chance to win the consolation match. I think it is very exciting and thrilling. ¡¡ |
