Because I was very busy in thinking and deciding many things, I had temporarily stopped writing English diary.
I found out that my English speaking ability has sharply declined. During these 10 days, I have received five or six foreign clients. But I couldn’t speak fluently as usual. Maintaining foreign language skill is very difficult and a hard work under the circumstances where you don’t use English in daily life.    |

 Paris Dakar Rally is one of my interesting things. Every year the rally starts in a city in Europe at the beginning of the year, and a lot of cars and motorbikes head for the coast of Dakar in Senegal of Africa in two weeks. When I was younger, I wished I could participate in the Rally. I got a motor sports driver's license, but I gave up the dream because I cannot take long days off.  Today at last I could see the ending of a video game, Final Fantasy X. It took more than 60 hours to complete it. This computer game has some fantasy role-playing elements. I liked Kyoto for sightseeing. But recently as I get old, I come to hate crowded places. During New Year's holidays and tourist seasons, popular shrines and temples are very crowded. The main streets like Shijo-Kawaramachi are also crowded. Kyoto is one of the largest cities in Japan, but I felt Kyoto is only different city from other big cities. Kyoto is very nice for sightseeing, but would be hard to live for me. There are many people in each small place. No spacious shopping centers nor big amusement places in downtown. All popular areas are stuffy. The reason is that the government keeps reconstructing a building under control. In other words, constructing a tall building is banned under landscape management. It seems that all the surrounding mountains can be seen from Old Imperial Palace. I like quiet Kyoto in the off-seasons.

 I visited Heian Shrine in Kyoto on New Year's Day. Actually I don't know about the correct way to prey at a shrine, but it seems that men clap their hands twice before bowing their heads but women don't do that. Anyway I preyed for others but forgot to prey for myself. (^_^;) Many people consulted an oracle (Omikuji, paper fortune), but I don't like it. When I get Kichi, good fortune, I say, "Who believes that?" but when I get Kyo, bad fortune, I 'm very worried about my near future.(^_^;) |

 Kyoto style ozoni was served at a restaurant in the hotel. That was my first time to eat it though I was living in Kansai for a long time. The soup was miso. I was living in Osaka, too, but I have never eaten Osaka style ozoni. Chiken is in it. The style of ozoni seems to depend on the place mother was born. My mother is originally from Okayama.
