What is Mixi?
I like everything that is the newest. I always get interested in the new ones. However, surprisingly I have never accessed Mixi. The reason is very simple. No one has ever accessed Mixi around me. I need an invitation from the member of Mixi in order to log in. The number of the members is 10 million now. Around one in 10 Japanese people is the member. It is unbelievable. Why am I not a member? Hahahaha. But I am losing interest in Mixi. The limited number is meaningful. Now it is not new anymore. In addition, I feel Mixi is like Pasokon-Tsushin in old days. The Internet is open to everyone. I like this one. Web sites and Blogs open to everyone are very nice. Anyway Mixi has become too big. The invitation system is meaningless any more, which was a special feature of it at first.    |

私が英語学習者の頃（今もですが）、当時国際部門の部長（英語の達人と言われた）からのアドバイスは、ある程度英語力がついてきたら、ただだらだらと学習しても効率が悪いので、何が自分の知らないこと、何ができないことなのかを見つけることが大事だ、と言われました。
その一つの方法が、例えばですが、電車に乗って耳をすまして他人の会話を聞き、即時英訳するというものでした。もちろん、すべて即時訳などできるわけがないので、その自分ができなかった部分だけを後で復習すれば良いということです。 確かに、ある程度英語ができるようになると、ただ教材をもちいて勉強してもほとんど知っていることばかりになってしまいますね。もちろん、忘却防止の意味で反復は必要ですが。  |

I am a user of NTT Docomo's PHS Data Card. NTT is supposed to stop the PHS business at the end of this year. If I cancel the contract of the PHS now, I can get the newest and most expensive mobile phone free of charge. NTT pays even its expense instead of me! It means that it is completely free of charge. (^-^)
I am going to get one of the 904i series.  |

Recently I heard about Toto Big in the news. I bought the Toto lot for the first time on the Net. It is very good for me. I used to buy lotteries like Summer Jumbo and The end of year Jumbo. I bought ten pieces of lottery at a time. Of course I can buy just one piece. But I felt embarrassed and always paid as much as three thousand yen for ten pieces. Hahahaha.
However, online shopping allows me to buy just one piece without any barrier. Three hundred yen is enough for me to just have fun. |

今更ながらに思うのですが、当たり前のことをつい欲張って忘れがちになります。
時々当面の目的を失って英語学習をしていると、こんなやり方で力がついているのだろうか・・と疑問に感じたりしますよね。 力がついているかどうかは、実践で肌で感じるかＴＯＥＩＣのような試験を受けてみないとわからないのですが、いざ外国人と接してみて、あ〜全然思ったことが言えなかった〜という強い反省と後悔が無ければ、次なる対策が明確にできませんね。 コツは簡単で、自分が必要とする英語から固めていくことです。これは中間・期末試験などとまったく同じで、最も出そうなところから誰でも試験勉強をしていきますよね。 会社の国際部門の部長・役員クラスの人たちでも、仕事の英語はそこそこできたりしますが、ＴＯＥＩＣなんぞ６００点くらいです。つまり、必要な英語だけを習得しているのです。 自分が必要とするコアとなる英語を中心に幅を広げていくこと、これでうまく知識もリンクされ、活かされるのです。 でも、時々、幅を広げすぎて、すべての英語をマスターしてやろうなんて欲がでてくると、必要のない勉強をしているってことにもなります。ましてや、限られた時間しかない人にとっては致命的です。 海外旅行に行くときに、英語初心者はいくつかのサバイバル・フレーズを暗記し、それが実際絶大な効果を発揮します。 初心者でなくてもこれは同じだと思います。普段絶対に使わないような英検１級対策の単語を記憶しても何の意味もありません。その間、本当に必要な単語を忘れていきますので。 自分への戒めとして、時々自己反省として、初心にリセットしてみようと思います。 |

I have tried almost all the learning materials and methods for many years. Since I was an absolute beginner at first, I was able to try everything. So even if you are a junior high school student, I hope my experience will be helpful. First of all, regardless of your English ability level, I would strongly recommend NHK radio English programs. One of the reasons is that various programs are available according to your ability. Secondly, it is the cheapest way. Thirdly, you can learn how to study English through these programs. I also used radio programs from the entry-level for the first grade junior high school student to Business English. I am going to start Business English again. |

I expect that Digital Video Camera with a mini DV tape will disappear from shops in a few years. Aspect ratio 16:9 TV sets have been getting popular and now high-vision video cameras are selling a lot.
The problem is how I should back-up and preserve the movie data of mini DV tapes. If my DV camera breaks down, I won't be able to play the movie anymore. One of the best ways is back-up the data into DVD. The quality level goes down. But there is no other way. |

I visited the Shin Marunouchi Building. So many expensive restaurants and luxury brand shops are in the building.
But I was disappointed to see such modern style. I used to drop by the old building on my way home and enjoy its classic atmosphere. |

社会人になって英語学習を開始してからもうどれくらいがたったでしょうか。
全く英語ができないレベル『TOEICが一問もわからないレベル』(汗)からよくまあ懲りもせず続けたものだと感心していますが、過去何度か挫折しかかり勉強本を紐で縛りゴミ送りしたものの、ゴミ捨て場をゴソゴソと探して持ち帰ったものです。 今から考えると、本当に好きで勉強していたんだと思います。 一体何が？ 決して極めることができないところなのかもしれません。生涯学習ですね。 |

Recently I have read some books featuring the Ritz Carlton hotel, because I felt sympathy with their principle called "Credo".
Although all the books are written with the same theme, each author's different aspect was very interesting. I found in the authors' comments some points in common with my viewpoint of work. I thought that there is no gap between industries about the basis of service. The best phrase is; "When receiving complaints form our guests, we are pleased to listen to them as advice." "We take complaints as an opportunity." |

Nevertheless, I cannot get over the attraction of dreams.
I find myself having set a new goal chasing a dream. Of course, the goal is not an unrealistic big dream, but it is a feasible plan within arm's reach. The other day when I met my mother, I was told that I should save money for emergencies, which she told me when I was a kid, though. I am asking to myself whether I may invest money in the next dream vision on my way home. |

When I was playing a video game, Play Station Final Fantasy XII, suddenly I felt dizzy and sick. In this game, the main character’s visual line can be turned round 360 degrees. This time I played it with a 50-inch high vision monitor for the first time. I mean I suffered from motion sickness. If I had played it on a 17-inch PC monitor or 29-inch TV monitor, I would not have felt sick.

 Photo Sanyo Xacti DMX-HD2 I went to see Kanada Festival, which is held every two years. Asakusa Festival is one of the biggest ones, but I like Kanda Festival more. That is because Asakusa Festival is held very limited small area, so it is very crowded and I cannot see the potable shrine closely. But as many potable shrines and floats move on the main streets at the Kanda Festival, I can watch them from the sidewalk. |

I quit NOVA school at last.
I had been around 10 years in NOVA. But as I was a very lazy student, I go to the school only once or twice a month. The reasons I stopped going to NOVA school are various. Of course it has nothing to do with a recent bad reputation. I believe NOVA was a very good school for me. I like English still now. But I lost the interest in a face-to-face communication in English a few years ago. I do not know the right reason. But maybe I think I have known much about foreign cultures. When I started to study English many years ago, everything involved in English, say, American culture, idea, economy, history and so on. But now I have learned a lot of things. I used to enjoy culture shocks. But not anymore. |

Communication using English with non-Japanese people is fun. But do I like English itself?
Yes, I do. Especially grammar. It is like mathematics. There is a rule and logic. But I am not interested in how to express my feelings. How much clearly I convey the fact is important for me. As for me, English is just not a tool for communication. If so, it is very boring to study English. Studying English with enjoyment is a tip for continuation. |

When I wash my clothes, I many times rinse all the soap out of the clothes.
Also, I try to completely rinse all the soap out of the dishes. I do not want to eat the soap. (笑) However, British people seem to rinse the dishes with soap only one second or never rinse them. They say that the soap is used for cleaning, so who cares even if you eat soap. Soap is clean. I do not want to home stay in England. |

I hate the High School Baseball Association. When I was a student, I did not like their concept because it is very oldfashioned. I feel the association is trying to even brainwashing high school students mistakenly.
And now, the association is trying to trouble students. They never try to protect students, pursuing their own interests. Only Baseball Association is strange. The chairman is too old. It should be in his 40's or 50's. |

I was so surprised to hear that the Dover Straits earthquake happened.
I did not imagine earthquakes sometimes occurred in such an area. The Channel Tunnel seems to be built to withstand earthquakes with a high magnitude. But I think English houses are old and made of brick, so likely to collapse easily. |

I saw a movie, Babel. I didn't realize that it was the Academy Award movie until I actually saw the movie. I know an Actress Rinko Kikuchi, but I didn't know that Babel was the movie where she played the role of a high school girl. (I watched a TV program, Academy Award 2007 as many as twice.)
Interestingly, I enjoyed the movie very much, but the evaluation of the people who watched the movie is not good. In my opinion, interesting movies without any yawn are good movie for me, because I am not a movie critic. I don't care about artistry and technique. By the way, I nearly felt sick when I saw the disco scene with many flashes. But I was OK because I closed my eyes. |
